Food Security

  • Project from: 1982 to 1992

Two large projects, Adjustment Related Food Policy and Food Systems and Society, comprised the Institute’s work on food security. The principal objectives of this research were to explain why food security is lacking for large social groups and many countries; to suggest what might be done to improve food security and to develop and test appropriate methodologies for analyzing food security issues; and to act as a catalyst stimulating further research along these lines. Adjustment Related Food Policy was a forerunner to the Institute’s project on Crisis, Adjustment and Social Change. Also, a related sub-project project on food security in Cambodia was recently completed (see Vulnerability and Coping Strategies in Cambodia ).
