Poverty, Inequality & Post-2015

  • Post-2015 Development Agenda (2012 - 2015)
    UNRISD’s 2010-2014 Research Agenda is framed around two themes: Social Policies for Inclusive and Sustainable Development; and Political and Institutional Dynamics of Social Development. These themes, addressed through a range of projects, engage directly with the priority concerns of the international development community and the UN system. This page highlights some of the entry points through which UNRISD research is informing the debates and discussions that are shaping the post-2015 development agenda.
  • Employment-Centred Poverty Reduction and Social Policy in Rural Tanzania: Policy and Institutional Change (2011 - 2012)
    The project, which is intended to support the FAO in its operational work on rural employment in Tanzania, entails the preparation of an analytical framework inspired by the UNRISD poverty report, Combating Poverty and Inequality. By applying key insights from the report to the specific case of Tanzania, the project aims to improve understanding of the linkages between macroeconomic, labour market and social policies, and their outcomes, informed by a historical understanding of the country’s development strategies, and with a focus on the rural sector.
  • Poverty Reduction and Policy Regimes (2007 - 2010)
    UNRISD initiated a project in 2007 to study the causes, dimensions and dynamics of poverty. It adopted a policy regime approach to examine the complex ways in which poverty outcomes are shaped by the configuration of institutions and policies in a triad of economic development, social policy and politics. It aimed to shed light on the institutions, policies and politics that have made some countries more successful than others in reducing poverty. This project built on earlier UNRISD research on Social Policy in a Development Context, the findings of which challenged the residual role given to social policy in public policies concerned with stabilizing the economies of developing countries and pushing them onto a growth path.
