Ageing, Development and Social Protection

Date: 8 - 9 Apr 2002

In contribution to the Second World Assembly on Ageing, United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) organized a two-day conference on Ageing, Development and Social Protection to highlight some of the key issues related to population ageing. The Institute invited internationally renowned social scientists and gerontologists to present papers that addressed the dynamics and challenges of population ageing in contexts of rapid social change, as well as in situations of social crisis. Other papers examined policy responses to population ageing, through both formal social protection, and informal care and inter-generational exchange.

The Institute also acknowledges the support of the governments of Denmark, Finland, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, which provide its core funding.
