Global Summit Announced for a New Eco-Social World

“Our vision is that when we emerge from this pandemic, we co-build a world based on values that ensure our planet will be sustainable, and together we can provide good quality life-cycles, not only for each human being, but for each part of our eco-systems on which we all depend, leaving no one behind”.

A people's summit will take place from June 29th to July 2nd 2022, initiated by the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development* and the International Federation of Social Workers**, bringing together world citizens, stateless people, politicians, professionals, leaders of social justice movements, and environmentalists to develop new visions and global values that provide trust, sustainability and solidarity.

Since the initiative of this summit was launched, other global bodies have quickly joined to become partners to the summit. Facilitator and co-organizer Rory Truell said, “Many more global partners, leaders and representative members of all communities are expected to join this event in the coming weeks and months. We will continue together promoting a global conversation on the eco-social values and new visions needed to give us all and future generations trust, confidence and security in our daily lives”.

The initial partners include young people in the Global Student Forum, a global organization of 183 student unions from 118 countries; the World Federation of Public Health Associations, the global body for the public health associations; Power Us, a international network of people that use social services; the International Pharmaceutical Federation, the global body representing pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences and pharmaceutical education, comprising 146 national organizations; the International Council on Social Welfare, comprising 112 members and 65 countries; the social work profession and education, comprising 5 million professionals in 146 National Associations of Social Work and social work education globally, the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) comprising 736 research and postgraduate centres in the field of social sciences and humanities in 51 countries; and global networks of people with lived experience.

The summit is timed to take place immediately before the United Nations High-Level Political Forum in July 2022, and aims to deliver messages to the United Nations and all world leaders on the future values that need to underpin relationships within nations and globally. The website will be launched today and will be updated regularly with information on how to get involved in this journey for a new eco-social world that leaves no one behind.
