UNRISD Research Co-ordinator attends PovPeace Conference in Oslo, Norway
14 Nov 2007
UNRISD Research Co-ordinator Shahra Razavi attended the PovPeace Conference on the 14th of November 2007 in Oslo, Norway. The purpose of the conference was to bring together the researchers working on the Poverty and Peace Programme, of the Research Council of Norway, in an effort to exchange and share proposals. Shahra is a Boardmember for the Poverty and Peace Programme and acted as chair and resource person at the Conference.
In 2005, the Poverty and Peace Programme was launched by the Research Council of Norway as a new research programme focused on international poverty reduction and peacebuilding with the support of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad).
The goal of the programme is to build expertise, inform public debate, and provide input into policy-making internationally to improve the understanding of how to achieve poverty reduction and effective peacebuilding. The thematic areas cover traditional development, welfare and poverty, labour markets, research on institutional conditions, human rights, access and control over natural resources, and environmental management, among other related topics. Ultimately, the programme seeks to gather a centre for international knowledge based on fields in particular need of policy intervention.
