UNRISD Director Sarah Cook urges the international community to mark the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty with a moment of reflection. An official United Nations day on October 17, the Day’s theme this year – "From Poverty to Decent Work: Bridging the Gap" – draws attention to one of the critical but underrepresented issues in the MDGs and other poverty reduction agendas.
The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty focuses attention on possibly the most urgent element of what is needed to raise people out of poverty sustainably—jobs.
