UNRISD Director, Thandika Mkandawire, will participate in a panel discussion hosted by
CRISE (Centre for Research on Inequality, Human Security and Ethnicity) on July 7 at Sixty One Whitehall in London.
On the occasion of the launch of a new book titled “Horizontal Inequalities and Conflict: Understanding Group Violence in Multiethnic Societies”, by Frances Stewart and the CRISE team, the panel will discuss the role of economic inequality in producing inter-group conflict.
The discussion, based on the empirical findings of the book, will focus on the identification of policies to reduce horizontal inequalities among religious or ethnic groups and on the integration of such policies into the development agenda.
CRISE is a Research Centre within the University of Oxford, which investigates the relationships between ethnicity, inequality and conflict. CRISE aims at identifying economic, political, social and cultural policies to promote stable and inclusive multiethnic societies.
