UN Research Project on Indigenous Rights to be Presented in Auckland, New Zealand

Results from the UNRISD research project entitled ‘Identity, Power and the Rights of Indigenous Peoples’ are to be presented and discussed at a public meeting in Auckland, New Zealand. The seminar will take place at the Northey Lecture Theatre (Building 801, Room 204) of the Faculty of Law at Auckland University, on 28 May, from 2 - 5 pm. The meeting aims at securing feedback on the research results from academia, NGOs, indigenous peoples, representatives of international organizations and governments, and the general public.

UNRISD Collaborating Researchers Suzana Sawyer, Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of California, Davis; Jon Altman, Director and Professor at the Centre for Aboriginal Economic Policy Research of the Australian National University and Megan Davis, Senior Lecturer and the Director of the Indigenous Law Centre, Faculty of Law, University of New South Wales, will present the results of their research. The New Zealand meeting is part of a worldwide seminar series whose goal is to better understand the power relations affecting indigenous communities and to engage all actors and stakeholders in identifying a more equitable form of decision-making.
