UNRISD Director, Thandika Mkandawire, will be lecturing on “The Spread of Economic Ideas in Africa” which will summarize the UNRISD research findings under the social policy programme, as well as outline the resulting implications on national social and economic goals.

The first event is on 31 January 2008, where Thandika is speaking at the Action AID International Development Economics Associates (IDEAs) Leaders/Practitioners workshop on “Economic Literacy and Budget Accountability for Governance”. He will be lecturing in the morning from 9:30-11am on the sixth day of the event. The workshop takes place at the TERI Campus, Gurgaon, Haryana. IDEAs is a group of progressive economists around the world who engage in research, dissemination, and analyses of economic policy and development. The second event is on 1 February 2008 from 5-6pm at the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning Department of Special Assistance Programme (DSA) conference at the Jawaharlal Nehru University. Thandika will be speaking to many academics and students from the University on the theme of Economic Structures, Growth and Development, and how UNRISD’s research addresses national policy issues. The purpose of the conference is to reveal innovative research by young economists that have just begun their academic careers.
