UN Research Visiting San Pedro as Part of Global Poverty Research Project

26 Jul 2007

Yusuf Bangura, Coordinator of UNRISD’s Poverty Project, is holding a meeting with his Costa Rican research team on the 30-31 July 2007 in San Pedro, Costa Rica and is available for interview to discuss this new and exciting work.

UNRISD recently initiated a project to study the causes, dimensions and dynamics of poverty. The work itself adopts a ‘policy regime approach’ to examine the ways poverty outcomes are shaped by the configuration of institutions and policies in a triad of economic development, social policy and politics. The project has two components.

The first intends to examine policy regimes and poverty reduction. This will entail in-depth research by teams of researchers in Botswana, Brazil, Costa Rica, India, Kenya, Malaysia, South Africa and China (Taiwan Province). In addition, overview papers addressing these issues will be prepared on China, Finland, Ireland, Mauritius, Mozambique, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Viet Nam.

The second part of the project involves work related to the preparation of an UNRISD Flagship Report on Poverty to be published in 2009.

Yusuf Bangura will be available for interview either via telephone or in person (San Pedro, Costa Rica) between 12.30 p.m. and 2.00 p.m. (Costa Rican Time) on the 30 July 2007. For further information or to schedule an interview, please contact Richard Warren or Emanuel Wragg at UNRISD on +41 (0)22 917 1497 or (mobile) +41 (0)76 455 1847.
