UNRISD Collaborates with UNITAR to Brief UN Delegates in New York and Geneva

UNRISD is briefing delegates from UN Member States on social inclusion and the post-2015 development agenda at an Orientation Briefing organized in New York by UNITAR on 16-17 April 2014. UNRISD Director Sarah Cook prepared a short video for the Briefing, using lessons learned from UNRISD research to set the stage for the two days of dialogue among invited experts and members of delegations.

UNRISD also provided a short paper for delegates, outlining how new sustainable development goals must differ from the MDGs, and how UNRISD’s broad definition of transformative social policy melds with the current emphasis on integrating social, economic and environmental policies. The paper draws on UNRISD’s “Beyond 2015 Briefs”, also available to participants in the Briefing, that contribute research-based insight and analysis to the dialogue around the post–MDG development agenda. Beyond 2015 Brief No.4 on Social Drivers of Sustainable Development , as well as the UNRISD Flagship Report Combating Poverty and Inequality: Structural Change, Social Policy and Politics offer particularly relevant insights on the topic of social inclusion. Sarah Cook will participate in person in the Geneva edition of the UNITAR orientation briefing on the post-2015 development agenda taking place in the second week of May 2014. The event forms part of a series of interactive technical briefings for members of delegations and other government officials at the United Nations. The overall objective of the briefings is to strengthen knowledge for evidence-based decision making in the formulation of the post-2015 development agenda.
