UNRISD Director Sarah Cook will present the 2010 Flagship Report,
Combating Poverty and Inequality: Structural Change, Social Policy and Politics, at a regional launch in Beirut, Lebanon on 11 November. Tarik Alami, Director of the Economic Development and Globalization Division at ESCWA will be a discussant during the event.
This regional launch of the report and its executive summary in Arabic will provide a forum to deliberate and contextualize its key findings for the Arab region, and initiate debate and dialogue on solutions.
The Poverty Report argues that reducing poverty and inequality depends not only on economic growth, but also on comprehensive social policies and politics that elevate the interests of the poor. The report offers alternative policies and measures that countries can adopt to sustainably reduce poverty and inequality.
