UNRISD team to organize NGO Consultation Workshop in Geneva, 12 to 13 January 2009

9 Jan 2009

The United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) will hold a two-day NGO Consultation Workshop at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland on the 12 and 13 January 2009. The consultation with NGOs has three objectives:
1) to identify key emerging issues that might be addressed in future research, and to better understand the research needs and concerns of NGOs;
2) to seek suggestions about how to improve communication of research results to the NGO community; and
3) to present the results of UNRISD research to NGOs stakeholders.

This consultation is one among several being organized by UNRISD to obtain input from different constituencies on the design the next phase of its research agenda (2010-2014). The NGO consultation will also help develop new approaches in the way the Institute relates to civil society organizations.

Representatives from around 25 NGOs will be taking part in the Consultation. The NGOs that will be represented are the Abraham Fund Initiative, ActionAid, Alliance Sud, Asociación Latinoamericana de Organizaciones de Promoción al Desarrollo (ALOP), Amnesty International, Caucus of Development NGO Networks (CODE-NGO), Centro de Estudios Ambientales, CETIM - Centre Europe - Tiers Monde, China Youth Network, Civicus Civil Society Index, DAWN, Global Forum for Health Research, Global Labour Institute, Global Policy Forum Europe, HelpAge International, Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP), International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW), Instituto Marqûes Valle Flôr, La Via Campesina, Migrant Forum Asia, Oxfam, South Asian Perspectives Network Association (SAPNA), Third World Network and WWF International. The United Nations Non-Governmental Liaison Service (NGLS) will also be participating.
