UN Researcher Presenting a Paper on Small States’ Development at a Workshop in Trinidad and Tobago.

UNRISD Research Coordinator, Naren Prasad, is to present a paper entitled “Small but Smart: Small States in the Global System” at the University of West Indies in St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago, on 20 February 2008. The presentation is part of a closed International Workshop on The Diplomacy of Small States, organized by the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI). It reflects CIGI’s ongoing research into the practice of contemporary diplomacy and will explore the diplomatic challenges small states are facing.

UNRISD, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat, is carrying out research on social policies in small states. The project “Social Policy in Small States” investigates why some small economies have succeeded in formulating ingenious social development policies to overcome their chronic vulnerabilities and have managed to improve their social indicators, while other small countries, with similar or different policies, have not succeeded in increasing the welfare of their population.

Naren Prasad will be available for interview either via telephone or in person (St. Augustine, Trinidad & Tobago) between 19 and 24 February 2008 from 9.00am to 12.00pm and from 1.30pm to 6.00pm, except on 20 February 2008 between 1:30pm and 3:00pm.
