UNRISD Director and Research Coordinator Speak at Development Forum for G20 in Seoul

UNRISD Director Sarah Cook is speaking at the Development Forum for the G20 at the Seoul National University in the Republic of Korea on 21 October. Entitled “Global Economic Crisis and Social Protection”, the session will be held at 9.30 a.m. in Room 113.

UNRISD Research Coordinator Ilcheong Yi will participate in the Development Forum as a discussant in the Different Paths to Economic and Social Development in Emerging Economies session on 21 October at 3.30 p.m. in Room 113, and in the G20 and Global Architecture session on 22 October at 10 a.m. in Room 114.

The Development Forum, which will precede the Seoul G20 Meetings on 11 November, will address socially and economically sustainable development strategies and policies with a focus on adapting them locally in a context of global crises. The Forum will concentrate on development in the Republic of Korea since the mid-twentieth century as its central case study.

Panelists will include Dae-won Park of the Korea International Cooperation Agency; Johan L. Strijdom of Africa Union; Asep Suryahadi of the SMERU Research Institute; Peter Wolff of the German Development Institute; Huck-ju Kwon, Professor at the Seoul National University and doctoral students.

Cook will also be a panelist in the televised Seoul Development Debate on 22 October at 1:00 p.m. in Room 13, broadcasted by the KBS television channel. Cook will be joined by Thandika Mkandawire, Chair in African Development at the London School of Economics (LSE) and former UNRISD Director; and Manuel Riesco of the Center for National Studies of Alternative Development (CENDA).
