Virginius Xaxa

Former Collaborating Researcher

Virginius Xaxa collaborated with UNRISD for the project Identity, Power and the Rights of Indigenous Peoples 2006-2008. He undertook a country case study on India for the project. At the time of his collaboration, he was Professor of Sociology at the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, holding the Rajiv Gandhi Chair for Contemporary Studies at North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong. He is the author of Economic Dualism and Structure of Class: A Study in Plantation and Subsistence Settings in North Bengal (1997), and co-author of Tea Plantation Labour in India (1996).
