Ashok Kumbamu

Former Collaborating Researcher

Ashok Kumbamu collaborated with UNRISD on the project Social Dimensions of Green Economy and Sustainable Development (2011-2012). For the project he spoke at the UNRISD conference on the issue held in October 2011 and authored the paper, How does Localized Social Economy Sustain in a Globalizing World? A critical analysis of post-developmentalist initiatives in Andhra Pradesh, India in Development (Volume 55, Number 1).
At the time of his collaboration with UNRISD, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta, Canada. His research and teaching interests include the political economy of development and globalization, science and technology studies, environmental sociology, critical agrarian studies, social economy, the commons and social movements. His publications include Ecological modernization and the 'gene revolution': The case of Bt cotton in India in Capitalism Nature Socialism and Beyond agricultural deskilling in Current Anthropology.
