Shireen Hassim

Shireen Hassim collaborated with UNRISD for the project Gender Justice, Development and Rights (2000-2002). Hassim co-edited with Shahra Razavi the Palgrave volume Gender and Social Policy in a Global Context: Uncovering the Gendered Structure of the "the Social" (2006). She was one of the speakers at the UNRISD Conference on Gender and Social Policy (2005). At the time of her collaboration, Hassim taught Political Studies at the School of Social Sciences, the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. She has worked on the South African women's movement for several years, and has lectured and published in this field. During 1999, she was a member of the Gender and Elections Reference Group of the Electoral Institute of South Africa, and co-edited the Elections bulletin. She is a member of the Advisory Board of Womensnet, a website for women.
