Johan Fritzell

Former Collaborating Researcher

Johan Fritzell collaborated with UNRISD for the project Social Policy in Late Industrializers: The Nordic Countries. For this project, he co-authored a draft paper together with Olle Lundberg entitled Welfare and the Welfare State: Income and Health.
At the time of his collaboration, he was Professor of Sociology at the Centre for Health Equity Studies, Stockholm University/Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. He has for many years conducted research on determinants and distribution of welfare in Sweden. A major focus in Fritzell’s work concerns comparative studies of poverty and income distribution.

Fritzell has been involved in several international projects on these issues and has been a member of the board of “the Luxembourg Income Study” (LIS). His publications include “Nordic Welfare States in the European Context” co-editor, Routledge, 2001.
