Markus Jäntti

Former Collaborating Researcher

Markus Jäntti collaborated with UNRISD on the project flagship report Combating Poverty and Inequality (2010) for which he wrote a background thematic paper, Gender, Poverty, and Social Policy Regimes: A Comparative Analysis of Twenty-Four Upper-Income Countries, in collaboration with Janet C. Gornick. At the time of this collaboration, Jäntti was Professor of Economics at Abo Akademi University, Finland.
His primary research areas are income distribution, applied econometrics and labour economics. His research centres on income and wealth inequality and poverty and socioeconomic mobility, especially in a cross-national perspective. He has worked on trying to understand and quantify the importance of family background in the distribution of economic resources.
