Julius E. Nyang’oro

Former Collaborating Researcher

Julius E. Nyang’oro collaborated with UNRISD for the project Ethnic Structure, Inequality and Governance of the Public Sector, from 2002 to 2005. At the time of this collaboration, Nyang'oro was Professor and Chair, Department of African and Afro-American Studies, and Adjunct Professor of Political Science, University of North Carolina, USA.
His research interests are on Africa's comparative political economy, particularly the role of the State in national development; and the role of civil society in Africa's democratization. These interests have resulted in a number of books including The State and Capitalist Development in Africa (1989); and an edited volume on Civil Society and Democratic Development in Africa(1999).
