Michelle Jaramillo

Former Intern (Research)

Michelle joined UNRISD as Research Intern in September 2017. She assists Senior Research Coordinator Ilcheong Yi and Research Analyst Suyeon Lee with the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) programme and in particular with the project: The Case of Social Economy in Seoul, South Korea.

Prior to arriving at UNRISD, she obtained a Master’s degree in Economics, specializing in Social and Solidarity Economy from University Lumière Lyon 2 in France. Her Master’s thesis explores the potential of SSE in the field of international cooperation, especially in combating poverty and fostering social and economic inclusion and environmental protection. In 2015-2016 she participated in an exchange programme at UCLA (the University of California, Los Angeles).

She has interned at the International Trade Centre (ITC) in Geneva, where she assisted the office of Latin America and the Caribbean in project development.

Michelle is passionate about Latin America, Local Economic Development (LED), Social and Solidarity Economy and International Cooperation. Her primary research interests include gender equality, informal economy, diversity and public policies for development.
