Giovanni Andrea Cornia

Giovanni Andrea Cornia was the External Research Coordinator for the UNRISD sub-project on Macroeconomics and Social Policy 2002-2004 within the project titled "Social Policy in a Development Context".
At the time of his involvement with UNRISD, Cornia was Professor of Development Economics in the Faculty of Economics at the University of Florence. He has previously taught at the University of Pavia, the University of Helsinki and the European Institute in Florence.
He was the Director of the World Institute for Development Economics Research of the United Nations University (UNU/WIDER), based in Helsinki between 1995-1999, and also the Director of the Economic and Social Policy Research Programme of the International Child Development Centre in Florence between 1988-1995.
His research focuses on Pro-Poor Macroeconomics, Globalization and Inequality, and the Socio-Economic Impact of AIDS on Children.
Key publications include Adjustment with a Human Face (Vol.I, 1987 and Vol. II, 1998) with Richard Jolly and Frances Stuart; Transitions and Institutions: the Experience of Gradual and Late Reformers (2001) with Vladimir Popov. “Poverty and Inequality in the Era of Liberalization and Globalisation” in Human Development and the Enviroment, ed. by H. He has also published about 13 chapters for different edited books, some 40 articles in economic journals and working papers series. He has also co-ordinated four large research reports for UNICEF.
