Niraja Gopal Jayal

Former Collaborating Researcher

Niraja Gopal Jalyal collaborated with UNRISD for the project Ethnic Structure, Inequality and Governance of the Public Sector from 2002 to 2005. For the project, Niraja authored the UNRISD/Palgrave volume Representing India: Ethnic Diversity and the Governance of Public Institutions, 2006.
At the time of this collaboration she was Professor at the Centre for the Study of Law and Governance, Jawaharlal Nehru University. She is the author of Democracy and the State: Welfare, Secularism and Development in Contemporary India (Oxford University Press, 1999); co-author of Drought, Policy and Politics in India (Sage, 1993); and editor of Democracy in India (Oxford University Press, 2001).
