Florian Bieber

Former Collaborating Researcher

Florian Bieber collaborated with UNRISD for the project Ethnic Structure, Inequality and Governance of the Public Sector 2002 - 2005. For the project, he authored a Palgrave volume Post-War Bosnia: Ethnicity, Inequality and Public Sector Governance, 2006. At the time of his collaboration, Bieber was a senior non-resident research associate of the European Centre for Minority Issues, based in Belgrade. He taught at the Central European University, Budapest and at the Regional Masters Program for Democracy and Human Rights in Sarajevo.
He has published articles on power-sharing, institutional design and nationalism in Southeastern Europe. He is the author of Serbian Nationalism from the Death of Tito to the Fall of Miloševiæ (Münster: Lit-Verlag, 2004, in German), Ethnic Structure, Inequality and Governance of the Public Sector: Bosnia-Herzegovina (London: Palgrave, 2005) and Institutionalising Ethnicity. Success and Failure in Post-war Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo and Macedonia (Sarajevo: International Forum Bosnia, 2004, in Bosnian). In addition he has also edited Montenegro in Transition. Problems of Identity and Statehood (Baden-Baden: Nomos, 2003); Reconstructing Multiethnic Societies: The Case of Bosnia-Herzegovina (Aldershot: Ashgate, 2001, with Džemal Sokoloviæ) and Understanding the War in Kosovo (London: Frank Cass, 2003, with Židas Daskalovski).
