Joan Martinez-Alier

Former Collaborating Researcher

Joan Martinez-Alier collaborated with UNRISD for the project Identity, Power and the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, 2006-2008. He wrote a draft paper "The Environmentalism of the Poor" for the Special Event: UNRISD's Contribution to Rio+10: The World Summit on Sustainable Development.
At the time of his collaboration, he was Professor of Economics and Economic History at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Spain. He is the author of Ecological Economics: Energy, Environment and Society (1987) and The Environmentalism of the Poor: A Study of Ecological Conflicts and Valuation (2002).
