Paul Johnson

Former Collaborating Researcher

Paul Johnson collaborated with UNRISD for the project Ageing, Development and Social Protection, 2001-2003. At the time of his collaboration, Paul was Professor of Economic History at the London School of Economics (LSE), UK. He has written widely on the economics and history of old age and pensions, and on the development of welfare states.
His publications include Workers versus Pensioners (1989); Ageing and Economic Welfare (1992); Labour Markets in an Ageing Europe (1993); Old Age: from Antiquity to Post-Modernity (1998). He has been a consultant to the UK government and the World Bank on pension system and social sector reform. He worked with colleagues at LSE on the construction of a micro-simulation model of the ageing of the UK population to 2050.
