Pekka Pietilä

Former Collaborating Researcher

Pekka Pietilä collaborated with UNRISD for the project Commercialization, Privatization and Universal Access to Water, from 2003 to 2004, for which he co-authored a draft paper Water Services in Finland: Competition for Non-Core Operations - Not for Monopolies.
Pietilä has 30 years experience in water and sanitation sector both in Finland and overseas. He has worked in Tanzania, Libya, Namibia, England and Lithuania in water related assignments. These activities have included work in a water utility, a regional water project, an advisory unit of local authorities, a decentralization support programme, and university teaching and curriculum development. He carries out research on the role of local authorities in water and sanitation services with a focus on Finland, Lithuania and Namibia.
