Xiao-yuan Dong was a speaker at the UNRISD Seminar Series "Chinese Women’s Paid Work and Unpaid Care Responsibilities during Economic Transition", and also participated in the UNRISD workshop "Women’s Paid Work and Unpaid Care Responsibilities: Time Use Survey Data Analysis in China". She was a co-author (with UNRISD Director Sarah Cook) of the article "Harsh Choices: Chinese Women’s Paid Work and Unpaid Care Responsibilities during Economic Transition" in the special issue of
Development and Change, edited by UNRISD Research Coordinator Shahra Razavi, entitled
"Seen, Heard and Counted: Rethinking Care in a Development Context".
At the time of her collaboration with UNRISD, Dong was Professor of Economics at the University of Winnipeg in Canada and Adjunct Professor at Peking University in China. Her research focuses on the impacts of China’s economic transition on labour and gender inequalities. Dr. Dong is a founding member and co-director of the Chinese Women Economists Research Training Program at the National School of Development of Peking University. She has served on the board of directors of the International Association of Feminist Economics since 2007 and is an associate editor of
Feminist Economics.
