Michael Winer
Former Collaborating Researcher
Michael Winer collaborated with UNRISD on the project Social Dimensions of Green Economy and Sustainable Development (2011-2012). For the project he spoke at the UNRISD conference on the issue held in October 2011 and authored the occasional paper "Payment for Ecosystem Services Markets on Aboriginal Land in Cape York Peninsula Potential and Constraints" (2012, No. 6).
At the time of his collaboration with UNRISD, he was Project Manager and Principle Researcher for Environmental Management and Land Use at the Cape York Institute for Policy and Leadership. In 1992, he founded the North Queensland branch of the Wilderness Society, which led to major land acquisition programmes in Cape York. He is also the founder and CEO of Jawun, Australia’s largest corporate coalition supporting indigenous communities.
