David Apter

David Apter was the External Research Co-ordinator of the UNRISD Project on "Political Violence and Social Movements", 1991-1994. For the project, he authored a book The Legitimization of Violence, Palgrave/UNRISD, 1996, and a discussion paper Democracy, Violence and Emancipatory Movements: Notes for a Theory of Inversionary Discourse, 1993.
David was a political scientist and sociologist. He was Henry J Heinz Professor Emeritus of Comparative Political and Social Development and Senior Research Scientist at Yale University. David passed away in USA, May 2010.
