Ito Peng
Former Collaborating Researcher
Ito Peng collaborated with UNRISD for the projects Social Policy in Late Industrializers: Transforming the Developmental Welfare State in East Asia (2002-2004) and Political and Social Economy of Care (2006-2009). She authored a paper The Political and Social Economy of Care in the Republic of Korea (2009). For the project Social Policy in Late Industrializers, Ito Peng explored the politics of welfare developmentalism by examining the evolution of the Japanese welfare state, paying particular attention to gender and family issues. At the time of her collaboration, Peng was a Professor at Department of Sociology, and School of Public Policy and Governance at the University of Toronto, Canada. She has written numerous articles and chapters on comparative welfare states and gender and social policy in East Asia. Her research examines the impacts of post-industrial changes on welfare states in Japan, Korea, China (Taiwan Province), Italy and Spain.
