World Social Work Day 2020: Community Engagements for Social and Environmental Justice

World Social Work Day has been celebrated around the globe since 1983. This year, the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) teams up once again with the Geneva School of Social Work and its international partners to mark the Day at UN in Geneva.

World Social Work Day aims not just to showcase the achievements of social work and increase its visibility, but also to highlight its synergies with social development: shared commitments to social justice, inclusive development and human rights.

Community Engagements for Social and Environmental Justice

The theme of World Social Work Day 2020, Community Engagements for Social and Environmental Justice, is inspired by the spirit and claims of Jai Jagat, a global march for justice and peace. Held on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birthday, the march began in New Delhi on 2 October 2019 and will arrive in Geneva on 26 September 2020.

On 18 March 2020, we will celebrate World Social Work Day in Geneva with a rich programme including speeches by Yvonne Riaño, a geographer specialized in inequalities, and Aruna Roy, co-founder of one of India's leading civil rights organizations. You will also have the opportunity to attend one of six workshops that draw attention to the relevance and impacts of community action around the globe to strengthen social justice and sustainable practices.

Registration

The event is open to international civil servants, professional social workers, students and other interested individuals. Participation is free.
