  • Project Title: Policy Report on Gender and Development: 10 Years after Beijing

The Fourth World Conference on Women, held in Beijing in September 1995, was a high point in international efforts to advance women’s human rights in all dimensions. Ten years on, many actors around the world reflected on the achievements of the past decade. Over the past two years, UNRISD has prepared a flagship report on Gender Equality: Striving for Justice in an Unequal World.

To launch the report, UNRISD organized a full-day conference to highlight some of the key issues related to gender equality. The Institute invited a wide range of feminist scholars and activists from diverse countries and regions, that have prepared background papers for the report, to participate as speakers.

Distinguished keynote speakers included Pregs Govender from the Women's Leadership in Politics (South Africa) and Peggy Antrobus from DAWN (Barbados). Both keynote addresses are available in full text.

UNRISD will be holding a series of international conferences in 2005-2006 to launch to the report. To find out about these future events, we encourage you to subscribe to our free email alerts service.
