The Power of Knowledge: UNRISD Classics Launch

Date: 15 Apr 2015

  • Time: 13.00 - 14.30
  • Location: Room IX, Palais des Nations, Geneva

UNRISD Classics is a set of three volumes—Social Policy and Inclusive Development, Gendered Dimensions of Development and Revisiting Sustainable Development—that bring together 50 selected essays from 50 years of UNRISD research. The contributions both highlight some of the Institute’s most influential and ground-breaking research and, through new introductions, demonstrate its relevance to today’s development debates.

For the launch event, UNRISD has invited a panel of dynamic speakers who will engage with the role of research in development policy and practice, and, more broadly, how ideas have influence. The legacy of UNRISD research over the past 50 years will serve as a backdrop—and, we hope, as an inspiration for reflection and discussion.

Following introductory remarks by Maureen O’Neil, Sarah Cook and Olivier Bürki, Ilcheong Yi will moderate a panel discussion among Bina Agarwal, Jimi Adesina and Charles Gore.

We will kick things off with a small reception (13:00-13:30). The launch event is being held in conjunction with other UNRISD institutional events the same week, so we expect wide-ranging attendance: UNRISD Board members, representatives of our main donors, personnel of the Permanent Missions and UN agencies, as well as academic and NGO communities in Geneva.

Remote access to the event

We will be tweeting key messages live from the event and welcome your comments and questions, which, time permitting, we may be able to put directly to the speaker. Follow us on @UNRISD and use the hashtag #UNRISDClassics.

This event will be video and audio recorded. If you would like to be notified when the video and the podcast are online, please send an email with “Audio/video notification: UNRISD Classics” in the subject line to sandoval@unrisd.org
