UN Secretary-General Appoints Paul Ladd Director of UNRISD

UNRISD is pleased to convey the announcement, made by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on 23 July 2015, of the appointment of Paul Ladd of the United Kingdom as Director of UNRISD. He succeeds Sarah Cook, who stepped down as of 1 June.

Paul Ladd has 20 years of experience in global policy and research on issues such as trade, finance and migration. He is currently Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Team on the Post-2015 Development Agenda.

Prior to that, he led UNDP’s policy team on inclusive globalization and the team that prepared UNDP’s contribution to the September 2010 Review Summit on the Millennium Development Goals (2009-2011). He has also worked as Senior Economic Affairs Officer in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (2008-2009) and Senior Policy Adviser on Development Finance, UNDP (2006-2008). Before joining the United Nations, Mr. Ladd was Policy Adviser, HM Treasury, London (2004-2005), Chief Economist at the United Kingdom charity Christian Aid, London (2001-2004), Economic Adviser at the United Kingdom Department of International Development in Pretoria (1997-2001) and Financial Adviser at the Central Bank of Guyana (1995-1997).

Mr. Ladd holds a Master of Science in quantitative development economics and a Bachelor of Science in economics from the University of Warwick.
