UNRISD has always emphasized dissemination of its publications to libraries and similar public-access institutions in the North and South. In 1999 the Institute initiated a system of depository libraries and documentation centres, which receive all in-house publications free of charge, and there are currently nearly 250 participating institutions (31 per cent in Africa; 20 per cent in Europe; 17 per cent in Latin America/Caribbean; 16 per cent in Asia; 12 per cent in the Middle East/Central Asia; 2 per cent in Oceania; 1 per cent in North America).
