Production, Equality and Participation in Rural China: Reflections on a Field Trip in September/October in 1979
This book was a product of UNRISD’s major programme on Popular Participation, which examined the forms and outcomes of participation in different geographical, social and institutional settings, particularly in Latin America and Asia. In relation to rural populations, the inquiry examined the struggles for land, livelihood and improvement of production technology. This study in China focuses on attempts by the state to organize peasants within the framework of a national policy. Similar studies were carried out in Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru.
This volume was also co-published in 1983 with Zed Books.
