The findings presented in this book show that policy and programme decisions concerning land reform and the resource needs of the rural poor should be better informed by civil society actors. This wide-ranging reader on land reform processes and civil society initiatives in developing countries considers the historical, social and political complexities and experiences of land reform from Southeast Asia; the Near East and North Africa; Southern, East and Central Africa; and Central and South America.

Each chapter analyses the land tenure legislation in these regions, and also scrutinizes the roles of the state, market forces and donor agencies. The chapters highlight the range of efforts in the area of popular mobilization, netwokring and the implementation of specific land reform initiatives involving a range of civil society groups.

The book will be a useful reference tool for civil society groups, community leaders, decision makers in governments and lawmakers in parliaments, as well as officials who, in international organizations, work of the issue of land reform and tenure security.
