Measurement and Analysis of Socio-Economic Development.

This volume was the culmination of UNRISD’s pioneering work in the 1970s on alternative ways of defining, measuring and analysing the distribution of the material components of livelihood. This publication identifies the principal problems of existing development data, explains the weaknesses of prevailing methodologies of data analysis, and assesses the potential and limitations of alternative methods considered more suited to the nature of cross-national development data.
