Social Work and Youth: Towards Inclusive Sustainable Development

Social Work and Youth: Towards Inclusive Sustainable Development
Constituting over 1.8 billion persons around the world, young people are key agents of change with the potential to push the world towards a better tomorrow. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development represents a global vision for a sustainable future that will not be achieved without the active participation and inclusion of youth. Young people around the world nevertheless face multiple structural, socioeconomic, political and interpersonal challenges and insecurities which give rise to multiple vulnerabilities and potential risk behavior. The 2018 edition of Work Social Work Day at the United Nations in Geneva considered ways to strengthen young people’s potential to contribute to sustainable development, and inclusive societies and communities. Pathways were identified to help youth overcome the challenges they face so that every young person can live a fulfilling and dignified life.

UNRISD Event Briefs highlight knowledge that can improve the quality of development debates, policy and practice. They offer readers a concise overview and key highlights of the discussions at selected UNRISD project workshops, conferences and international meetings. Through these briefs, UNRISD provides information about its events and the discussions taking place, which may not otherwise be available to interested audiences.
